Organizations providing music in the Northumberland area
PORT HOPE FRIENDS OF MUSIC This organization has been bringing an outstanding classical concert series to Port Hope for over 30 years. They have been most gracious in providing reduced price tickets for music students for at least one concert per season.
WESTBEN The “dream come true” of pianist/artistic director Brian Finley and his wife, soprano/marketing director, Donna Bennett: a custom built barn theatre just outside of Campbellford, that hosts one of Ontario’s leading summer festival concert series, as well as other community fundraisers.
ONTARIO PHILHARMONIC Formerly the Oshawa Durham Symphony Orchestra, this professional orchestra, based in Oshawa offers a youth concert series held at the UOIT/Durham College Rec. Centre. They have grown tremendously through the artistic vision of Music Director, Marco Parisotto, and their audiences as well as their programs, reflect a wide variety of musical tastes.
NORTHUMBERLAND ORCHESTRA & CHOIR The community orchestra of Northumberland County has been in action for over 30 years. Their four concert season always provides a healthy selection of masterworks for choir and orchestra and often provides opportunities for the community to hear up and coming soloists.
LA JEUNESSE YOUTH ORCHESTRA The Port Hope based youth orchestra celebrated its 10th anniversary this season. Their three concerts each year are always well attended by a highly supportive audience who clearly enjoy the energy and musical intensity that radiates from this group of enthusiastic young players.
THE ANCIENT MUSIC TRIO Deborah Henderson, violin, and Fred Cory and Julian Nelson, recorders, formed this group to perform music of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. They have performed recitals at many venues throughout Northumberland County, and can be seen occasionally in period costume performing at community events.
THE ARCADIAN DUO Deborah Henderson, violin, and partner Fred Cory, flute, have been providing music for weddings and other special occasions for over 10 years. The blend of flute and violin playing Baroque and Classical selections lends an atmosphere of elegance and sophistication, particularly in outdoor settings.
